A symposium on Electric Vehicles and Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles held by Mitsubishi Motors Philippines Corporation (MMCP) in De La Salle University (DLSU) was attended by engineering students from Mapua Institute of Technology (MIT), University of the Philippines (UP), and DLSU on December 5.

Essentials of Vehicle Electrification to reduce Carbon Footprint on roads of the Philippines and the technical features of the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV SUV and i-MiEV Pure EV by MMPC were included in the topics discussed with speakers from Meralco, Electric Vehicle Association of the Philippines (EVAP), Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), and the Department of Transportation (DOTr).
The symposium moved to DLSU Laguna Campus the next day with over a hundred students and professors coming from DLSU Laguna and the University of Perpetual Help Laguna who experienced driving the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV and i-MiEV inside the campus.
Sta. Rosa City Vice Mayor Arnold Arcillas, who was also present in the event, expressed the local government’s support on the environmental initiative of Mitsubishi.
This event and test drive activities are a part of the joint research of Mitsubishi Motors Corporation and the MMPC together with the Philippine government, members of the academe, and Meralco with a goal of lowering impact to the environment through automotive electrification.
MMPC president and CEO Mutsuhiro Oshikiri said that MMC and MMPC would like to accelerate the joint study project with the Philippine government, academe and Meralco on how vehicle electrification can reduce carbon emission in the country.
“We also believe that the involvement of the academe would play an important role in validating EV and PHEV technology, which is designed to lower dependency on fossil fuels that are harmful to health and the environment,” he said.
