PH's Shipping Firm Taps Japan's Kegoya for Ro-Ro plan

Chelsea Logistics Holding Corp. (CLC) has tapped Japanese shipbuilder firm, Kegoya Dock Co., Ltd., in line with the construction of its roll-on/roll-off (RO-RO) passenger ships where building up an expansion is the priority of the Philippine company.

In a stock exchange filing on Monday, CLC President Chrys Alfonsus V. Damuy and Davao-based businessman Dennis Uy clarified that they had signed the contract between Kegoya Dock that includes choices for additional three units of new ships to be delivered in 2020.

"Shipping and Logistics business is a long term business as it takes 2 to 3 years to acquire new ships. However, once these new vessels are put into operation, they will deliver better cash flows for the company as the brand new ships have very minimal downtime and very low maintenance costs." Mr. Damuy stated in its filing.

These newly acquired ships are expected to modernize the company's standing and improve safety and reliability.

He also referred eight tug boats recently gained by Fortis Tugs Corp., one of the companies under Chelsea Logistics, aside from owning 15 tankers and 21 Ro-Ro passenger vessels.

Co. Ltd and with this partnership of the two big fish in shipping business, they stated that they will bring also another three new vessels and will be delivered in the year 2020.

Chelsea CEO also said that one of the Chelsea Company already acquired new tugboats in addition to their partnership update.

The logistic back in 2017 already acquired Starlite Ferries Inc., it is a passenger cargo operator that is based in the province of Batangas. In total, the company currently has 15 tankers, 8 tugboats, 21 RoRo and passenger vessels (RoPax), and also 4 cargo ships.

“We are conscious of our direction and our deliverables to our shareholders, thus we are fast-tracking our fleet expansion, which is aligned with the company’s plans as disclosed during the initial public offering of [Chelsea Logistics] last August 2017,” Chelsea Company said in its filing.
