The National Meat Inspection Service (NMIS) reported that country’s dressed-chicken inventory skids down by 44 percent to 13,660.03 metric tons (MT) compared to last year’s 24,314. 63 MT, as of January 15.

According to NMIS, poultry inventory in cold storages reached the peak of 23,324.81 MT on December to respond for the demand of the incoming holiday season.

But in the first week of January, the buffer stock depleted to just 15,966.41 MT.

Region 3 posted the highest recorded inventory of local and imported chicken at 4,875.68 MT, followed by NCR with 4,150.47 MT.

NMIS’ survey excluded fresh chicken, mechanically deboned meat, and chilled chicken.

The agency also clarified that the scope of the figures was only from accredited cold-storage facilities.

Volume of dressed-chicken in cold storages normally drops after the Holidays. Local traders can import chicken but in small volume only as per the rules of Word Trade Organization.
