“That will be part of the railway network, connected hopefully when it’s all completed…from Batangas to Subic to Metro Manila,” Finance Secretary Carlos Dominguez III said.

The railway project will connect the Subic Bay and Clark Freeport Zone, and will link Subic Port with Clark International Airport and other major economic centers in Central Luzon.

It is expected to make Central Luzon into a new growth hub that can decongest Metro Manila.

The joint project of the Department of Transportation (DOTr) and the Bases Conversion Development Authority (BCDA) is ready for approval and confirmation of the NEDA Board which is headed by Pres. Rodrigo Duterte.

Meanwhile, the project is targeted for completion by April 2021 as part of the government’s Build, Build, Build infrastructure program.

Additionally, the government plans to produce 75 flagship projects alongside spending over P8 trillion until 2022 for the “golden age of infrastructure”.
