The president of European Chamber of Commerce of the Philippines, GuenterTaus said that the country is way behind others in terms of investor’s choice because of corruption and infrastructure.
“We’re way off, away from everyone. The typhoon, geopolitical issues, and relations of European Union to the Philippines in comparison with other countries, if you look at the level of corruption and state infrastructure if you factor all of these in, we are certainly at the lower end of the choice for people to come in.” said Taus.
Despite of being one of the countries in Southeast Asia that has progressive economic growth along with Vietnam, some of the investors are still choosing Vietnam over the Philippines because of infrastructure concerns.
“If you look at the figures and the rise of Vietnam, there’s certainly more investments coming in to Vietnam than to the Philippines,”Taus explained.
To further understand the “underlying issues”, Taus is set to visit Vietnam next week.
