“Within the next 12-18 months, world-class internet services on PLDT’s super-charged fixed and mobile networks will be available to more Filipinos in more parts of the country,” Pangilinan stated.

The statement came after the telco and digital service provider covered four million households through its fiber-fast internet coverage in 2017.

PLDT has also increased its fixed broadband network capacity to over one million ports by the end of last year.

Additionally, the biggest increase in the number of actual broadband lines was listed in Cavite, Cebu, Bulacan, Bataan, Pampanga, Pangasinan, Nueva Ecija, Laguna, Zambales, and Tarlac.

Pangilinan also said they will spend over P50 billion annually till 2020 “to supercharge both its fixed and mobile networks”.

PLDT is also installing fiber-to-the-home or FFTH facilities and “fibrizating” its existing copper-based network through hyrbrid technologies like G.fast which is used in South Korea and VVDSL in Germany to provide fast connection.

Meanwhile, the leading telecom company is converting areas into “smart cities” with the help of Local Government Units (LGUs) using its fiber technology.

In March last year, Toledo City in Cebu became thr first “smart city” and later on 2017, Cavite was set up as the first “smart province”.
